Today we will be investigating a little talked about but important facet for those treating chronic pain patients. For those suffering from chronic pain, most are all too familiar with the assertion that the pain is “all in your head,” and from this great stigma has surrounded the topic of psychological associations to chronic pain. However, we will explore the literature tying a history of chronic stress and or abuse as predictors of chronic pain as well as the severity of the pain.
