Knowledge regarding the long-term effects of multiple head injuries and even sub-concussive hits also known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is growing rapidly. As a society, we grapple with our love for these sports while realizing that some of our favorite stars are now being shown to develop Dementia, Depression and Parkinsonian symptoms secondary repeated head injuries. In today’s broadcast, we will highlight the current information as to why these head injuries are so disastrous to the brain, but the other factors occurring in one’s lifetime which perpetuate the brain dysfunction. By understanding this last point we may be able to come up with strategies to slow the brain degeneration.
